Even in Doubt, You Are Still His
A friend of mine shared his worries and anxieties: his fear of not being enough, of losing trust in God, and a vulnerability laid bare.
It reminded me that all we are is but a speck of dust in our Lord’s vast creation—just another grain in His endless field. And yet, in His mysterious ways, He cares for each of us deeply.
My friend spoke of his faith slowly drifting away. Of prayers that feel unanswered. Of everything he does seeming insufficient or unworthy. And I found myself wondering how to remind him that he is enough, that he does not need to measure his worth through the lens of failure. These thoughts can be dangerous; they fester in silence, grow in stillness, until we begin to forget who we are.
When faith feels like it is slipping through our fingers and prayers seem to echo unanswered, it becomes easy to believe we are not enough. That no matter what we do, it will never be sufficient. But worth is not measured by accomplishment or answered prayers. You are enough simply because you exist. A beloved creation, known and cherished.
It is also natural to feel anger, even to question or blame God in these seasons. To wonder why He allows pain or seems silent when we need Him most. These feelings do not make you a bad person or a failing believer. They make you human. Even in doubt and anger, love does not disappear. You are still His.
Sometimes the pressure to be perfect, or to have everything figured out, only deepens the ache. Perhaps what we need is a pause. A breath. To inhale the heaviness and exhale the fear. Letting thoughts pass without judgment, without overthinking, without punishment.
Faith is a journey. It is an unfolding of trust, love, and surrender. It is often messy, often uncertain. It is okay to question, to doubt, even to be angry. What matters is that you keep going, keep seeking, keep holding on to the truth that you are deeply loved.
Even when it feels distant, He is still there listening, present. His presence is not measured by our awareness of it. And sometimes, simply believing that He is there…is enough.
